Discovering Light and Colour through Beer: A Spectroscopy experience for Young Students

We hosted a fun and educational event at the Department of Physics of the University Federico II in Naples: a spectroscopic analysis of beer colors for a group of middle school students enrolled in a science-focused program with an interest in light-matter interaction.
The visit to the HoloLith Lab was organized within the RIALE-EU (Remote Intelligent Access to Laboratory Experiments) funded by Regione Sardegna.
Using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, we analyzed beers with different colors with the children to study how light is absorbed and how the color differences relate to chemical composition and brewing processes.
During the visit, the students also explored the HyperMaSH Lab, where they observed practical demonstrations on the use of light in photonics applications and the process of generating holograms through a computer.
It was an opportunity to introduce young minds to the science of light and show how light can be applied in unexpected ways
