Erice holds a special place in my scientific journey. Eleven years ago, I attended my very first international school there. Returning during the last week of August, this time as an invited speaker at the International School of Physical Computing, was particularly meaningful.

Beyond the pleasure of meeting brilliant researchers from across the international community, I was particularly intrigued by the new possibilities for applying the azobenzene-based materials and photofabrication techniques developed within HyperMaSH to optical computing.

My sincere thanks to the organizers, Antonio Calà Lesina, Wolfram Pernice, and Birgit Stiller, for the invitation and for making my return to Erice such a memorable one.
